More delays

I called the Surgical Bookings at hospital this morning ... and they're saying August/September for my THR surgery. Sigh. I will still have my Pre-Admission Clinic soon, but that's 'valid' for 6 months. I reckon I'll be lucky to have this thing done by the end of the year.

This is the disadvantage of being a public Medicare patient - private patients and more urgent cases take precedence, and push you further down the waiting list. Canberra has the worst / longest waiting lists in the country, too.

The advantage of being a public patient is the operation and hospital stay don't cost me a cent. So the wait is worth it! I'll keep posting about my preps and stuff now and then, but don't have to think about it quite so seriously just yet. The waiting is the hard part!

  1. gah! sorry it's such a wait, but as they say, patience is a virtue!! Not that it makes it much easier when you are in pain.

  2. I notice your avatar is prepared for the wait. Now you have a stick to beat them with if they put you off too often.

Waiting is awful. Maybe you should start anaother painting to help the time pass.

  3. I don't know about you, but I like having everything totally organized before surgeries, so try to look at this as a chance to get everything nailed down exactly how you want it.

Otherwise, it sucks. :/ Hope they get you in soon.

  4. oh no! That is too bad...when you are mentall ready for it and now you have to wait. It doesn't seem fair, but I know healthcare is a waiting game sometimes. I scheduled my surgery last November for June! Partly because I wanted my school year over (as I am a teacher) and partly because he wouldn't have been able to get me in much sooner anyways. This time you have....take advantage of it! If I could go back, I would have worked out my thigh muscles more. I would have also lost a few more pounds if I could. Your time will come!

  6. Well, the wait will give you plenty of time to get projects completed and maybe make your own project baggies for future projects. You know all those patterns you have that you want to make. Put the yarn and pattern and anything else you need in a paper bag and surprise yourself as each project is finished. I know that after surgery you will not have a lack of things to do while being prone/sitting the first month or so. You haven't painted in awhile and there are always to word puzzels!
What an adorable picture of Petal in her new coat.

  9. Been out of the loop but I am sorry you have so long to wait for much needed surgery, Jejune. You are on the "Knowledge is Power" plan, quite clearly, so keep on finding out all you need to know to make it work well when the time comes. And YES! the PTSD aspect is something they must be sensitive to, considering your history. Sending healing vibes and lots of bicarbonate compress wishes. 8^)

  11. Oh the waiting is the worst part I think. But I agree, I used the public system for my lump in the neck operation and it cost Nothing!! I was lucky because my other blood disorder thing meant I got pushed up thse list. Hope the time goes easily for you.
